Swap 2003 4.6 with a 2001 4.0
Thanks, Alex, they both have SAI; however, I'm fantasizing about removing it. If I had to live with a code on the dash, I'm good. Alaska has no inspections, and this Rover will never exit this proverbial island.
SAI isn’t that bad. As long as the vacuum lines are good, and the pump works it’s not a bad system really. 4.6L vs 4.0L = direct swap as both are SAI.
My current project (that I own) is an 04 that runs super cool, but has a low oil pressure issue at idle. She also smokes a bit under hi revs. It needs to be torn down, but I don’t have the time right now.
Another D2 I am working on for a friend had cylinder 5 misfires even after new wires/plugs/coils were installed. Once it warms up it knocks like it has a stuck lifter, rod, or valve issue & #5 cylinder misfires like crazy. Head gasket isn’t blown out so it’s sick. He just needs a hunting truck, but it’s just another 4.6L with a problem.
I wish these engines were more powerful and reliable. I got rid of my 92 Nissan Pathfinder with 188k miles on it for the 01 Disco with 58k miles on it. The Pathfinder only had 153hp., but it actually would tow a 2 place atv trailer better than my Disco does.
