T-case swap?
I know I asked before but since I drove the truck for a bit longer now I have more info to provide. Here is the issue:
My t-case makes an awful grinding noise when I release the gas pedal. The noise goes away at 30 km/h or slower. As soon as I step on the gas again, the grinding noise goes away. It is not because the oil is low, I just changed it for 85/140 200 kilometers ago. And there is a constant whine coming from the t-case when I drive. I know it is supposed to whine a bit, but it amplified whithin the last 100 kilometer. Is the 85/140 grade appropriate for lower temperatures such as -20 degrees celsius?
As for the grinding noise, I suspect the bearing of the input shaft wearing off since it is more audible in the low range. But I cannot be assured that this is the issue. Is this a common issue on those? It's been a couple of months since I started monitoring this forum and I'm the first one to come up with that issue.
Would you suggest that I take a shot and change the bearing or you suggest that I change the whole t-case? BTW I found a used t-case in my area for 250$. Thanks for any input!

Are you sure that it is the T-case? The diffs can transmit whine through the driveshafts as well.
If it were me, and it is the t-case, $250 isn't bad. That way you can just swap and re-build your old one as a spare, or turn around and sell it to make you money back. You can have your truck right back on the road, and fix the old one at your leisure...

Well I'm pretty sure it is. I changed the oil in the diffs at the same time for full synthetic oil... I don't remember the grade but it is the one recommended by Rover.
What I don't understand is that there is no vibration in the truck at all. I can feel a vibration only in the CDL shifter.
As I'm preparing mentally for the monumental task of making the swap, how long should I expect this job to take? And are there any advice I can get for such a job? Thanks.
