Thorough Review of the DII
When you use low range and hit the M/S it displays M. Will hold the gear as that's what I use when I wheel. Won't hold the gear in high range though, that just gives you S which will ride a gear out a little longer and will let the torque stay unlocked a little bit more too.
I am surprised how many people did not know about the M (manual mode), that is great on slippery up hills off road, keeps your transmission right where you want it. No unexpected up shifts.
Yep Manual Mode & HDC make it very nice off road for sure. I used the heck out of them both at the 2018 HCRR and it worked flawless. People with Jeep's bash LR's all the time, but truly look at a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 of the same year vs a D2 of the same year and there is absolutely no comparison.
Nice video. I'm not a hater, but I would reserve all the accolades for the Range Rover (classic). In 1970, there was nothing even remotely like it, and as late as the Discovery II, the only thing that's been gained is an external spare and additional cargo space, both of which came with the Discovery 1. The Discovery II compromised the rear suspension with radius arms, discarded the Land Rover axle design that had been proven for decades, and added a lot of badly executed gadgetry while factory quality continued to slide farther downward.
As for "unique," I would call out the 2CV and the DS21. While the 2CV is not technically an "SUV," it was designed for and proven to have very substantial offroad capability. It and the DS21 are the only cars I've ever seen that made me believe that nearly everything can be done differently than what we see and know about virtually every other car out there.
