No one is saying it is going to happen each and every time you drive, but it is enough of a concern that it was installed at the factory.
You can do what you want, but to recommend that people by-pass it and never fix it is just wrong in my opinion.
I agree with you. It's not worth the risk. Plus I replaced the one on my P38 and having done it, I think everyone should get to enjoy it. Especially the hoping the manifold surface is clean and smooth enough part that keeps you in suspense until the thing is back together again and the engine is running.

Disconnecting this past summer saved me form a coolant leak in order for me to get home. Its back on now bc I got a new one in my head gasket kit and went ahead and used it. Don't think it really matters one way or the other...........

I don't know a lot about the Discovery yet, though I am now preparing to buy one, But, am I correct, the hose to this throttle body comes from that third hose outlet on coolant thermostat housing above and to side of radiator? If that is the case, and if one converts the OEM thermostat to more traditional temperature thermostat housing (having only two outlets on it), what do you connect that third hose to, the one that goes to the throttle body heater?

D2 thermostat has three ports, in, out, and sample from T fitting. Throttle body heater fed from other places.
