Thumping sound from center of engine / or ??
Hello, I have a 1996 se7. it has 125k. I parked it for 30 days and when i went to go drive it i heard a loud ticking, i thought it was a dry lifter so i got some sea form and added it then drove a little and changed oil. no change. I then removed a qt of oil and added ATF. Only a slight change or wishful thinking. I have read another post about flex plates. I am sending it to the shop but would like to here a few thoughts from this forum first. Any ideas would be great.

Is it a "tick" or a "thump"?
It could be almost anything, including the water pump, when it sat the water pump bearings could have dried out.
It could also be the alternator.
Before you send it to the shop remove the fan belt and spin the alternator by hand, does it thump?
That is what mine did when it went bad, it sounded like a rod knock but it was the bearings in the alternator, with the engine running I could set my hand on top of it and feel it thumping.
Replaced it and all was good.

Thanks for the idea, not it though. sound is deeper in the motor / flywheel area. Not sure what’s wrong have apt for 9am tomorrow. I will post results. I am still thinking it is a lifter / rocker. can you drive on it like that? Power is similar, low. If there was no noise i would not think there was a problem.

Can you drive with a sticky lifter? Yes, for another 100,000 miles maybe, with a rod knock? No, 100 miles maybe.
I dont see how a flywheel could go bad, all it does on a automatic trans cars is give the starter something to grab to start the engine, nothing moves, it is not lubricated, it just has teeth and spins.
Because the truck sat for a month when you started it the bearings were dry and you may have spun a bearing, depending on how you started it and how soon you drove it after you started it.

no it was still running with only a small tick. no over heating. no hydro lock. but just enough coolant was getting in to make compresion higher and over time bent the rod. never heard of it my self but i saw the rod and it was bent for sure. so we will see when its all back together.
