Ticking Noise as soon as Heat Gauge goes Warm.
I run Rotella 15W-40 for optimal oil pressure. VR1 isn't recommended because of the high zinc, though you can get regular non-racing 20W-50 if you live in a warmer climate.
Mine did something similar, and it ended up being a collapsed lifter - yours might also be this if it's more of a ticking noise. If it's a louder clunking, it's more likely a dropped sleeve. A video would help a lot for diagnosis here.

The area where the oil filter is seems VERY accessible right now being I have the bottom tray / cover off already vs removing the alternator and bracket to access the front cover ports. Anyone know the threads sizes to the oil filter so I can order the glow shift sandwich..??
I found this searching for a 2004 Discivery oil filter: 3/4”-16UNF-2B That doesn’t do much when looking to buy the adapter.
Scratch that. I went to
https://www.glowshiftdirect.com/oil-filter-sandwich-adapter-3-4-unf-16-thread/
and 3/4”-16UNF-2B was right there. 😊

Also they have two types of oil filter sandwich adapters… One has ports for oil pressure and temp gauge ports only, the other has 10an nipples to hook up an oil cooler.
Does the Discovery 2 already have an oil cooler…? And if not I wonder if putting one would help everything…??

Yes, oil cooler helps, it brings down oil temperatures by up to 20 deg F. I added an oil cooler (stock), but with a sandwich adapter, because the front cover is missing a part inside that prevents flow through the factory oil cooler ports. Using the oil pressure switch port for the oil pressure gauge (moving the switch to the upper port) and the oil cooler port for a temperature gauges avoids the Glowshift sandwich adapter (you can have two adapters in series, but space gets tight when you want to use a bigger oil filter). Using the oil pressure switch port for the oil pressure gauge has the advantage that you measure after the filter and not before it.
Where are you? There is a great shop in Wall NJ, off the turnpike that really knows his stuff. He pinned my liners several years ago, and fixed some other things as a courtesy. If I needed anything again, I would not hesitate to go to him. He is on here as Rover Master Tech or something similar. If you are interested, I can dig up the contact info.
