Default Ticking sound no more!

Went through all the previous posts, I wanted to let everyone know that I was getting a ticking sound, similar to a dieseling sound, sometimes at idle, but especially bad on acceleration.

Followed the thread here about the flex plate, and that was the culprit.

Don't trust the visual inspection you make through the trans inspection port - my flex plate was cracked right at the base of the inner circular area, and could not be seen without pulling the trans.

Atlantic British sells 'em for 50 bucks....I got it back together today and went for a test drive - no more ticking!

Would you have been able to see the crack if you had just pulled oil pan?

Would you post a pix of the bad one? And how long did it take you for this repair?

I threw the old one out, but what was curious is I could not see any visible cracking in the face of the plate, but when I washed it with dye, I could see a small hairline crack in the center ring. There is a retainer ring that created a groove in the plate, which started a hairline crack. I was amazed that this little bit could cause enough movement to cause the ticking sound, but...

I could not see the crack with the oil pan removed. Best bet is to go at it 100%, and do the rear main seal while you're at it.

It took me 16 hours, mainly because I was going slow, and had to run for parts in between. It's not a terribly difficult job, just be methodical and keep all the hardware organized and you'll be fine. That trans and t-case is pretty heavy...LOL

see this thread as to what it may look like:

mine was no where NEAR this bad, I had just a bit of scoring in the center and a slight crack, hardly visible to the eye, but enough to flex....
