Timing cover hole in block

Default Timing cover hole in block

The hole with the red arrow passes through into the water galley and the hole with the green arrow is blind. Is that the way the block should be, or should both holes be blind? I'm wondering if the PO used the wrong hardware and broke out the back of the hole. Both holes are blind on the passenger side. TIA!

Both of those are supposed to be blind, sorry. Silicone the bolt threads and under the head and it should be fine.

Thanks Extinct. I suspected that based on the opposite side. A buddy was an underwater welder for the Navy and he's offered to TIG it for me. Possibly overkill but if he wants to do it, why should I pass that opportunity over?!?

I don't see how he would weld the bottom of the hole up, and I don't see it causing any issues. Old mopars have timing cover bolts that are open to coolant passages from the factory.

Am I a lil confused? Is that not the bolt that Atlantic British says in multiple videos to remove as the easy way to drain the coolant? It is supposed to go into the water jacket, and you are supposed to use sealant on the bolt when replacing your water pump...no?

The plan was to fill it with weld and re-tap it.

NOOOOOOOOO. Its supposed to be open and have coolant flow out. It goes straight into the cooling jacket. It's fine, just put a little silicone under the head of the bolt just incase.

From what I understand, yes, silicone the threads and the head of the bolt. Threads need coating so they don't corrode and seize into the block, bolt head as added assurance to to help stop any other possible leaks. Folks say the black silicone stuff works well...
