Default tire recommendations??

Hey guys, I've been researching tire sizes for about 2 months now trying to decide what I want on my '00 D2....I've got a 2" lift on it and currently running 255/75s on stock rims, although I'm swapping over to steel wheels on my next tire purchase. I'm wanting to go with the tall, rather slim look on the new ones...my question is, does the 235/85/16 sound about right for the size lift that I'm running, or is that a little too tall?? Also, any precautions I need to watch out for on the drive train as I up the tire size?? I never knew tire shopping could be so stressful......:confused

The 235/85r16 will be just a little shy of 1 inch taller than the 255/75r16. I think they'll look great, especially on 7" wide or narrower wheels.

Thanks guys for your input...after posting that and reading some more of others tire selections, I think im going to give treadwright a shot....$400 mistake is better than a $1000 mistake.....but the 235s shouldnt effect/strain the drivetrain any?? Ive grown to be very cautious after blowing the front drive shaft and transmission out after having the lift installed one week prior (few years back)

It'll only strain the drive train if you're off-roading it. Where are you located?

The only effect with a larger tire will be a drop in gas mileage and low end torque.
As for the Treadwright tires, I run them as do many of my friends and we all like them. That being said, Are you going to be ready for the loss in low end torque and MPG going to a 32" tire? If you are, I would suggest you consider a 265/75 , with the same height and better ride. Also the 235's are all being fazed out by most tire companies, making it near impossible to buy replacements in the near future.
Which ever you go for, stay with th 8 ply as apposed to the 10 ply tire for a better ride.

Once again, 238/85r16 will be available. They aren't being phased out. I'm not sure how this keeps coming up but it's silly. If it were true, however many years ago you started saying it, they would already be gone.

This is the stock size on LOTS of one ton pickups with dual rear wheels. What would they run if they stop making these?

If you do any highway miles, you should do some googling into Treadwrights. There are lots and lots of horror stories about them coming apart at highway speeds and doing massive damage. I even found a guy who sold them for years whose conscience forced him to stop selling them because the separation rate was so high and he didn't want to kill anyone.
