I guess my theory is just different than the norm... If you already have pro level bones and muscle why would you wear discount shoes? These trucks are already cheap enough for the actual build quality compared to anything new. Why would you choose to save maybe $400 over a 4 to six year term of usage? $400 is nothing compared to what you will eventually spend owning one of these. Get the best tires you can. Period. You will notice the difference. For what, a hundred bucks a year? Why would anyone choosing to own a premium vehicle be so cheap?

I got 90k out of my last set of tires which I replaced with the new version of the same tire. You have to amortize the cost over the years of use... .

You make a fair point. However, I was not looking to buy a cheaply made pair of tires to just get by. I was asking if the Milestar Patagonias were sufficiently comparable to some of the others out there because, if so, why spend an extra $400? There are more expensive tires out there, but more $$$ does not necessarily mean higher quality or longevity.

Also, my situation is a bit different from the norm. This is not a daily driver. It is a project car for my son and I to enjoy and take off road occasionally. I have already spent about $12k rebuilding it (including the engine) and so anywhere I can shave a few hundred bucks without significantly sacrificing quality, I will do so.

Thanks again for your input.

so one of the big jeep rental companies in moab runs them almost exclusively due to the price point but the owner isn't super high on them. I'm running the general grabber X3s and can't say enough good things about them. Had two sidewall blowouts running KO2s after wheeling (did not compromise the sidewalls on the trail....) so I will not be buying another set of them or the KM3s (which I've heard have terrible issues getting them to balance).

I like the Cooper Discovery ST Maxx AT myself. They hold up well and in 6 years I have had only one blow out and that tire had some external sidewall damage already. The bad thing is they are an LT E rated tire so you do not get much deformation until you air down a lot.

I found them good off road in most conditions in the PNW, not a lot of mud experience though. On road they are good in rain and snow.

I don't know much about these, but if you are looking to run a great tire that lasts a long time and for around the same price, and you plan on driving a lot on paved road too, consider Hankook Dyna Pro MT in the same size. A lot of off road tires start to rumble more loudly as they wear, but the Hankook are not bad at all. I too have the 2" lift.

I considered buying these tires recently, but they didn't make the size I like to run, so I passed. From what I read and watched on Youtube, they look like a great tire. I was amazed at some of the real trail time comparison videos their was between the brands. The Patagonia hooked up on pretty much all terrains when aired down, and they supposedly were quiet on the road due to the center tread design.

in the comparisons did they state if they were running the stickies vs the competitors street offerings? They only have one tread pattern so pretty much impossible to tell just by looking, I'm a little skeptical especially if these videos were out in or near Moab, street tires will hook up on the slickrock

The Patagonia was a soft compound. They climbed all over the rocks, dug deep snow, plowed mud and even sand. Seem legit to me. idk.

X2 on the Falkens that Alex mentioned. Great deals on ebay from discount tire if you look; way better than their website. But the trend seems to be having several listings for the same item at crazy swings in price. I guess they hope to get over on impulse buyers, idk..
