I am going in through the console to remove the interlock, I have been having issues going into low. Anyway, I have always noticed a little chatter in the transfer case. But now that all the sound proofing is out, I can really hear it under load. I have DI linkage and expected it to be a little louder since it doesnt "float" like the DII does. But I was wondering if the chatter is normal and if anyone else has noticed it.

No, it is not normal, have you drained the oil yet to see what it looks like, check for chunks of metal on the magnetic drain plug, what weight gear oil are you using?
May need to put out some feelers for another D2 t/case, 99, 2000,2001 or 04 cause you are probably going to need it.
