I know how to get the fill drain plugs off using a serpentine belt tool but has any one swapped them for a low profile hex head plug instead? This way a regular combination wrench can be used.
@Red5 on my disco you would never get a ratchet in there, there is a cable that is in the way and very tight. A cheap 1/2 drive serpentine tool is perfect, it was all of 10.00.
You can but need wobble extensions or adapters. For the fill plug I used a 1/2 - 3/8 drive adapter with a 4” extension. The drain is more difficult with the crossmember in the way. Both plugs are pretty rough and a little rounded off. If I can replace them with a hex head plugs instead of 1/2 drive plugs just makes servicing easier next time.
I just did mine using a combination of 1/2" and 3/8" exentions, it was a bit fiddley but got it done. How often are we changing the fluid on these things? It it was like Engine oil I might make a swap, but for once a year or so I can live with it.
