I recently needed to replace my transmission oil pan gasket and the kit in town comes with both a filter and a gasket so I figured why not do them both. When I went to install the new filter I found that there is nowhere to place the pickup tube. Thinking this was a fluke, I checked the box and it reads "2000 Discovery II no pickup tube." And when I check RockAuto I see that the 'Premium' filter offered is also tubeless by design.
Will this filter work? Do I need to drain the pain and do this job again with a different filter?
Aye it looks like I'll be re doing the filter today or tomorrow. The gasket in the set worked nicely however. I trust RockAuto with a grain of salt. Double checking part numbers and sticking with OEM amongst their offerings hasn't failed me yet in 12 years.
Not double checking when I call parts in locally is where I keep failing! AutoZone strikes again.
Edit: Best4x4 no, those are the same faces. Instead of the spout for the pickup tube, the edge has an opening where theoretically transmission fluid would be drawn in. The bolt holes line up perfectly, the whole thing is odd. Another forum mentioned that a 3.2L Land Rover had a shallow pan but I can't find anything about that elsewhere. Did a 3.2L exist?

I just went out and checked the box and receipt. You are absolutely correct on what I was sold. I'll probably go with OReilly Auto this time but I'll be double checking. Sad I have to do this all again, glad I didn't drive it like this. Perfect time for me to get this all done seeing as I'm not going anywhere until my engine mounts come in. The engine is dropped a couple inches currently but that's for another thread perhaps, hehe
