Underneath , but basically just behind the oil pan and above 8mm hex (Allen Key)

You check cold and just a dribble should come out when you remove the bolt,it can be areal bitch to get the bolt out

Get a copy of the RAVE manual it will help a lot.

There is no way to "check" the fluid level in the conventional sense of what those of us who grew up with dipsticks are used to. Land Rover engineers decided those were too bourgeois and they went for a more convoluted approach. First, you start the truck and cycle through all the gears, pausing for a couple seconds in each. Then return it to park, set the handbrake and get under the truck (with it still running) and remove the fill plug. ATF should dribble out at about a drip per second. If this doesn't happen, fill until it does. Not only is the Rave an excellent resource for this type of thing, Atlantic British has some good DIY videos as well. If you're hankering for the good old days, get a pan and stick from a D1 and it will bolt right on so you can once again enjoy times when life was simpler.

Within this webpage, there are directions for draining and refilling transmission. My only suggestion would be, deviate from the directions...where it says drain fluid by removing drain plug and then remove fill plug. I would suggest removing or at least loosening the fill plug first. No sense draining it...and then find out you can't the fill plug out to refill.
