Try these:

Transfer case removal:

Manual Transmission removal:
LT308-001.pdf

Auto Transmission removal:
LT307-003.pdf

The above procedures detail removing the gearbox/transfer case as a single unit.

the tranny drops down from under the truck, check the splines on the input shaft. It sounded more like that to me.
