Default transmission problem

i have a series 1 and currentyly i am redoing the engine because of a over heat issue and very low compression due of. . the second issue is that before the engine died my transmision would seem to slip a lttle in drive then catch fine but if you dropped it into 1 there would be no slippage or any problems.. any ideas

It is most likely time to re-build the tranny. I had the same poblem with my 95 and ended up re-building it. I hope you have deep pockets

How many miles on your truck, how often do you change the ATF, what does the fluid level look like and does it smell burned???

At your mileage, yes you may be looking at get a rebuilt tranny or having your rebuilt, depending on what is cheaper.
Before I would do that I would change the fluid, not the filter and add a bottle of Lucas tranny additive, drive it for a week, if nothing changes then it is safe to say your tranny is dying.
A rebuilt or exchange tranny is one that has had all it's internal wear parts replaced like seals clutch plates valves and or soloinoids replaced along with a rebuilt torque convertor.

If you shop around you can find rebuilt trannys for around $1700 and up plus shipping and labor to install which would be $500 to $700.
