Default Tricky Dick - Removing Hood Liner

So my hood liner is starting to sag and rub on the intake manifold and throttle body. I am considering removing it completely but, was curious how much additional noise I should expect.

Or....Should I remove it, find some kind of glue and try to glue the liner to the hood to fix the sags.

Main thing is the clear coat on your hood. Expect it to start peeling much sooner than it would otherwise. I’ve see this happen time and time again. If your paint is already flaking don’t worry about it.

I took mine out, it was a mouse hotel, and replaced it with one from DEI.

I removed it on my D1 & the paint never messed up. It’s main purpose is a fire retardant/noise insulator.

I will remove the liner for now.

Prior to removing the liner, because I am a nerd...I will do the following
  • Measure dbs in cabin with cell phone centered on dashboard, and screen facing ceiling
    • Engine at idle, 2k RPMs, 3k RPMs, 4k RPMs
After removing the liner
  • Repeat the same scenario as before
I will log both measurements to see what the delta is with liner on and liner off.

I replaced mine with some insulation and high heat adhesive. Quieted the cabin quite a bit, didn't notice any change in engine temp. I'd likely go with the stick on kind for ease of installation next time around.
