Default Trouble getting into 4 low

Just bought a 2000 disco, I'd always been a fan. I'm able to shift into Low but it really takes some strength. Is this normal? Also, I just noticed that when I turn my car off, it sounds like little metal pieces are bouncing around in my exhaustsystem, but slowly goes away after about 3-5 minutes, any thoughts?

As far as getting it in to "Low", the easiest way to get the gears to catch is to actually let the truck roll at a very slow speed (less than 5 mph)in neutral (!) then engage "Low" and it should be like butter. In regards to your exhaust, sorry can't help you there.

Good luck

How much force are you having to use in order to shift? The high/low shift does require much more effort than all the other controls on the vehicle. The first time I shiftedfrom high to low in a Discovery I thought that there might be something wrong, but every one I've driven since has been the same. Follow the instructions on the center console and it should be OK.

I also think that your exhaust noises are normal as well. There are some pinging noises as the exhaust cools and the metal shrinks, not just on the Land Rovers but on most cars... Although, I don't know precisely what causes it.
