Dude sorry for the late response! I am going to disassemble them this evening and I will take pictures for you. I am switching back to the 04 ones and hope they stay dry for the time being. Right now I am trying to locate a auxilary fan motor... Got any ideas?

Default Tuff Rok stuff

I know these are older posts, but I can’t help but weigh in. I just received the rear tail lights for my 03 D2. I was hoping for plug-and-play, but apparently the design, engineering, and/or quality problems with these lights continues. I’ve tried a number of permutations to hook up, but none work. In some cases, when you step on the brake pedal, the lights go out! For the $500 I paid for these, I could practically buy another Disco!

I will keep trying, and will contact them. Shame on me, the rear bumper backup/fog lights will be here in a couple days. Can’t wait to see how jacked-up they are!

Yes I was frustrated as well. Surprised after all this time it’s still not been resolved. One positive, The front fender side repeater lights are nice as well the the safe cubby !

Yes, repeaters are nice (got ‘em). The cubby safe is nice, but I personally need a magnifying glass to read the numbers - some contrast against the chrome tumblers would be helpful. May do that myself one day if I can muster the patience to paint by hand.

Also bought the USB charger thing that’s supposed to fit near the transfer case shifter, Big surprise - it doesn’t fit. I want to like their products, but it’s hard…

Yes I have same issue with the safe. I only turn one of the tumblers a couple of clicks so I don’t have to try and see the numbers.

The TuffRok product line is in the right place in terms of ideas. The tech support is helpful if you are cordial and work with them. I ordered the wrong bumper lights, the yellow and red ones on accident, which came with a different plug type. They sent me an update adapter for me from the white and red 04 lights, it came damaged, and they shipped a new set to me.

I think it’s a close group of folks that accommodate an extremely small market. My hope is that they continue to grow and make some of their ideas more robust as it pertains to equipment manufacturing. Specifically the lights. They are dope. That is why we bought them.

Hell if I had time, money, and a good group of people behind me I think the America market at the moment would totally benefit for a US based company.

I have some thoughts into the wiring of the rear taillights and bumper/fog lights. And I may of realized why we are all having a troubling time with this. I may of come up with a solution but it would have to be tried and tested.

So the reason we are all having such difficulties may be the following reason.

Wiring diagrams are confusing, it takes practice patience and a well writing drawing/color coded ledger.

The wires of these lights were not designed for the NAS market. The wires provided on the tuff rok lights may match the original UK/ROW but I didn’t verify because I haven’t asked TuffRok specifically, and I don’t own a non NAS LR. It does add to the confusion and requirement for organization in terms of wire labeling.

Either way, TuffRok is probably in a similar boat, they made their products for the vehicles in their country.

Their products are designed to meet different road laws. Take a peak at their D1 lights. They have a bottom right light that is different than the others it’s red. By law in the UK/EU that requires a fog light/tail light that lights up on a specific side? I think it has to do with alternate road driving. Hell, I’m American I don’t know specific Europe based automobile light requirement laws so if someone knows better please advise us.

Why do vehicles in Europe/UK have a different light on one side? And does it pertain to fog lights? Maybe that will illuminate some technical issues…. Har har.

Which leads me to how I think these are actually supposed to be wired potentially.

Did anyone purchase the rear bumper lights as well? Well if you did you were provided a 3 pin deustche pin adapter. I was confused by this as the OEM bumper reverse fog lights use a 2 pin deustche pin.
I didn’t use it and hooked my Tuff Rok lights just like you guys (maybe) found out that I do not have specific functionality of the tail lights (not the bumper lights)

it is my belief that the missing link to everything is this….

Tuff Rok knew the purchaser of their rear light products and provided the appropriate 3-pin deustche pin adapter to connect one of the three pod lights via a jumper wire that goes into the the 3 pin adapter connected to the bumper lights.

I think the pods are supposed to be tied in via jumper cable to the bumper lights to bypass or eliminate the original UK/EU compliance requirements that are not applicable in the US.

Every orientation we try has a misaligned functionality or at best I believe I was able to get the pods to work save the reverse light function.

hopefully that makes sense to everyone? And unless someone tests out my theory or actually verified with Tuff Rok how to proper set them up for the NAS, this is the best my Chemist non electrical engineer brain has come up with.

I've had my eye on these for awhile and was about to pull trigger, but will hold off now. However the other items, ashtray power inserts are pretty cool and have nice finish!
