U-joint vibration???
Hey guys. I have been reading posts about failing U-joints on the DIIs and I am a little worried about it. My truck (1999) has 123k on it and I have never had the U-joints replaced (I dont have grease fittings on the CV joint). Anyway, I know its not that expensive to have the procedure done, but I am really stapped for cash right now (college student). I have heard that you will get a vibration before they fail and I am having a vibration between 50-65mph. My question here is will the vibrations be violent in nature. Im asking this because I know I need new tires because they are starting to get wavy on the outer edges which could also be the cause of the shaking. What I am trying to get at is will you definately know when its time to change the u-joints............ will it be a noticable shake or a subtle shake. Thanks
In addition to this I was having a brake issue that I was hoping someone could help me with. About a year ago I had EBC green stuff pads and EBC slotted/drilled rotors put in. It has been about 18,000 miles since then and I have about 50% wear left on the front pads but only about 20% left on the rear. I thought the rear were suppose to wear alot slower than the front. Is this a problem or is it normal..... I guess I should mention that I dont do any off roading and I try to be as light on the brakes as possible. Thanks again for the help

I hate to scare you, but stop driving the truck until you get the shaft fixed. You should be looking at about $200 to have it done. There is a way to pull the front shaft and lock the T-case so you can still get around, but it will be hard on your rear diff and they are weak to start with..
On the brakes, different wear is normal. Not sure about that much. Did you flush your brakes when you replaced them? Might want to with your mileage.

Ditto, get it fixed. Sounds like you might have tire scalping causing vibration, but u-joints are a must. I didn't think it could happen that fast, but mine went from mild vibration to flashers on doing 25mph on the interstate on the way to the dealer. Luckily the joints never broke and caused catastrophe, but it did ruin the entire front shaft.

Go one step farther, call me about your brake pad wear, I have nearly 62,000 miles on my Kevlar pads with nearly half the brake pads left.
Your drive shaft can fail in a block or a month, the bad news is, if they fail at highway speeds, the repairs will be more expensive then the value of your truck, about $7000 when you loose the tranny and get t/case damage also.
