A D2 4.0 is.... a D1 4.0 requires a little work. You'd need to swap front covers, cam gear, of course all the intake and related fuel stuff. Oil pan. The crank sensor mount is different, but it's tack welded on. You can transfer the mount.

All of this is assuming the D2 isn't SAI... if it is, the heads are different.

Same yard has a 2000 D2, but it has been there awhile. They did not list any at their yard in Winston Salem, I did not check further.

A reman block with top-hat liners would make more sense and ultimately cost less.

If you don't relly need the vehicle and have plenty of time, patience and skill and relly want to show that you can make the swap actually work, then go for it. Otherwise, stick with a Rover engine.
yes we have emission testing here but i don't worry about it. I have a dealers license and run everything on dealer tags. Time, I have plenty of. I am undecided, Id like to do it but will weigh all the options first. If I do, i will go with a full GM drive train with the exception of the axles. We'll see will decide over the next few weeks.

in my early 20's I and a couple of friends put a Chevy 427 in a 78 Toyota SR5, we ran military axles and 48 inch super swampers. If any of you are from New Orleans and were around in the mid to late 80's you would have known about The Chevota called Childs Play.

Thanks for all the input

Wade
