Question ULTRA GAUGE Qustion

I have these in ALL the rovers. Question is that the 2000 D2 reads 220 to 224 BUT a IR probe shows water at 180
Has anybody else had this happen? Putting in a 2015 version of UG today the one in there is a 2009

Where are you taking your temperature reading?

If the Ultraguage is reading the outlet temp and your IR probe is reading the inlet temp, then 180 and 220 is probably right and something is wrong with your cooling system.

If they are measuring at the same place in your vehicle, then one of your sensors is bad...either the IR probe you are using, or the temperature sensor that the Ultraguage is reading.

In short, I doubt your ultraguage is "bad" and I'll be $$ that the 2015 ultraguage is going to read the same as your old one.

You should have purchased a temp. sensor instead..

Needed the 2015 since we added two D2 in the last week or so.
the 00 is the one reading 220 and yes the 2015 had the same reading. Used a FLIR to read the hoses and a point probe into the water.
Dash gauge is DEAD CENTER with UG AT 220.
Replaced stat, hoses, water pump DID NOT change radiator out. Flushed system but have not sent a camera into the radiator yet.
NO leaks or coolant loss anyplace, oil is not milky so not a head gasket.
Runs fine so scratching my head.
The 2003 has no blower working for the A/C system but that is another day.

I just had an overheating issue and had the UG on( I knew it would overheat so I watched it). The temp senior on the dash did not raise from dead center until 236 degrees.

The Ultra Gauge doesn't "read" anything. It merely displays data from the ECU, which in the case of temp is the temperature detected by the engine temp sensor.

I wouldn't count on the IR being accurate since it reads surface temperature, especially if you're measuring in a different location than the stock sensor. As mentioned the UG doesn't "read" anything it just displays what the ECU is reading.
Does your temp starr at zero amd slowly increase to 220? Once at 220 does it ever drop back down? Regularly running 220 seems to point to an issue in your cooling system.

I'll be watching this thread. I installed the UG about two years ago. My dash gauge always reads dead center (except start up), while the UG shows me operating between 190 and 220 (never gotten to 236).

After burping the air I am running between 194 deg and 204 deg. I have found that air in the system is worth between 3 and 4 deg on the reading.
Yes I understand that the UG is just a readout off the OBDII which is the ECU feed among others.
Been seeing a P0161 (O2 Sensor fault) but what else is new. Just waiting for parts to finish the 2000 (this one) then will start on the 2003 which is a fresh can of worms.
