"Most people ask "what state is that in" when I tell them I'm from Vermont..." Yes, and when a young lady in a New York city hotel asked where we were from, we said "Oregon." She said, "Oregon, Oregon, where is Oregon?" Before we could respond, she said "Oh, yes, you guys are the ones who hate Californians." So, she remembered something about Oregon!

Haha no worries, I am not offended. If anything I'm just punching myself for not knowing where it was(Google maps comes through again). It is true though, as a majority Americans do not find interest in knowing where places are unless there is truly a reason for them to find out.

Zach, you knew where Malta was. It's south of Saratoga just off Exit 16 on the Northway.

"Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space"

Children love geography, they love to read an atlas, or an encyclopedia, or plenty of other things many adults forget the joy of. My son and I have this license plate game we play where we flip over the plates as we see all the states on the cars. He knows all the state capitals from doing this and also where the states are on the map. And you know what? I, at 40 and with a fancy college degree, finally know them all too. And it was fun.

As many of us get older we tend to forget that we are, in fact, floating in space. There is tons of cool and interesting **** in this world that many adults dismiss (who cares where Malta is, that doesn't pay my taxes!) and I myself was as guilty as any of forgetting this for at least a decade. Maybe 2 decades but the early 20's are a blur...

The little man teaches me way more than I could ever hope to teach him.
