I'm afraid that if I pull the heads I won't be able to resist pulling the engine too and cleaning that! Jokes aside, you're probably right, I'm this deep already. And, alas, I don't have an engine lift, so I draw the line there.

I didn't know the injectors had filters or retainers.. interesting. I bought the Beck/Arnley o-rings on RockAuto for $1.41 per pair.

Can I pressure wash the underside of the engine - oil pan off? Or garden hose if not? Spray degreaser & carb cleaner?

I have a dream to get all the oil and varnish buildup out of this car.

Pressure washer will work great for most of it, just be careful around the rubber gaskets like the oil pan gasket. If you use a powerful high psi model, you might gouge the rubber; not likely, but be aware and careful.

I'm talking about the underside of the engine -- crankshaft area. Already did the pan - and yep destroyed the rubber grommets so will have to order new ones. One of the grommets is like 20% larger than the other.. strange.

It might be just me, but I don't get a power washer anywhere near a LR engine bay. Way to many connectors, gaskets, and electronics that aren't brand new anymore and probably aren't 100% water resistant anymore.

I applaud you for trying to make the engine bay and engine spotless but a LR IMHO isn't the vehicle of choice for a spotless engine bay/engine. She'll seep from somewhere eventually. My LR engine bays/engines are clean but not spotless.

Now that you say it, it has been making me feel a little uneasy. Fouling an electrical connector would be a major pain in the ***. For example, I didn't even see the one behind the harmonic balancer for crankshaft position - probably because it was covered in oil sludge -and was happily blasting that with the washer. Well, at this point I can just hope everything works when I put it back together.

Now that would be a miserable job, pressure washing the bottom end while laying under the truck!

I wouldn't wash it when the engine is open.

I've cleaned my engine at the car wash. It immediately started misfiring. Something electrical. It went away when the engine heated up but I've made a point of not cleaning it except with a towel from that point forward.
