Nathan seems to know his rovers, he also recommended the same oil for mine when it began to tick.

re: he also recommended the same oil for mine when it began to tick.

Rotella is great oil. But change of oil quality and viscosity masking a tick may be hiding the failure of an oil pump. The outer ring can crack, still pump oil, and make over 7 PSi so the light goes out. Just how much more is something you will see with a manual oil pressure test. 15 PSI running at 60 mph with Rotella or any brand you like is not going to increase the life of the truck. But the oil light will be out, the stereo is loud, it's a great day....

Nope, the whole oil pump ticking theory only started showing up on the forum about 3-6 months ago but, a broken pump do to reduced oil pressure defiantly could cause a tick. For piece of mind I tore into my pump just to have a look, while in there I checked big end bearings and what I could see of the flywheel/flexplate. All items where in excellent condition, nothing found that could tick and engine was really clean, no sludge. My ticking and most that tick only when engine warm and only at idle, are in my opinion related to the liners ticking around. Its no big deal unless there is a crack behind the liner and anyone who has had the oil pan off can see there is no way the liner can drop down, do to a lip around part of the bottom of the liner bore. Most people on here deny thats the cause but, plenty of people have replaced every moving part in the engine except the block and still had the tick upon reassembly. I think you will find about as many 03/04 that tick as ones that dont.
