Default water pump fan nut size

Hello. I am replacing my water pump. Today I rented a 36mm fan clutch removal wrench. I thought it was a 36mm size nut on my rig, but the nut is smaller than that.

Does anyone know what size wrench i need?

Thanks All

This is what I used, but it did not have any size on it, the longer wrench in the picture. Let me go see if I can find it, and I will get you a measurement.

The nut on mine is a 36mm, and every one I've worked on has been a 36. But I do know that the diesel Discovery (not ever sold in the US) is a 32mm. Maybe someone replaced the fan clutch with an aftermarket or one from a different brand vehicle????

You can get it off with the right sized crescent wrench and a hammer, btw

That's what I used adjustable wrench and a tap from a hammer and it spun right off
And according to the scale on the wrench it was 36 mm..

From replies it had to be 36 mm. So I went to another auto parts store and rented another 36mm. The one i had rented first time was just ruined, and way over-sized from being beat on.

So i took the one that fit and beat it with a hammer, . One shot is all it took and she spun off.

Thanks All

That is one of the problems with rental tools, in that other dudes have no idea they have to pop it, so they go thru all kinds of problems and tear up the tool trying to get the clutch and fan separated from the pump. It's all in the wrist, just pop it like it is the head of a rattlesnake (or a sales weasel), gotta be quick and hard. Slow and strong does not work in this situation.

Shes all done, just waiting a few hours for the Permatex to set before adding coolant.

Savanah the High Tack sealant you recommended made the install nice. Gave me time to line everything up. It also says you can goop it on he bolts to, another plus.

Thanks Again
