Dusty thanks for the input. I figured it had to serve some purpose.

Thesoundguru, that's interesting. Maybe I should put mine back on the Volvo XC90 and see how it affects MPG. The nice thing with mine was that it was 6 screws and it came off easy. Unlike with the Rover's which was an absolute bear to remove (and was in two pieces by the time I got it off--thank you, Dremel)!

Yeah I thought mine was done back in June, a guy came off an on ramp and merged into the front passenger side of my R. Insurance was trying to say I had 11k in damages so they were going to total it. I had my local Volvo dealership run me a quote and they were able to repair the car for 6k so I was able to keep it.

Well done with the repairs for the moment. New timing chain, oil pump, front cover gasket, sump gasket with pickup oil ring. Reconnected crossmember, and filled the truck with oil and coolant. Here is to hoping for a successful start up tomorrow with no leaks. Who knows how many times I will have to bleed the coolant system but I am trying to make Sunday a rover day. In short me and the family pack up into the rover and see what we can get ourselves into.

Spent 5 hours and 75 miles driving trails and fire roads. Drove 3 fire roads today I hadn't driven before, and drove a couple I had driven before, as well as a couple of OHV/ATV trails I use as a shortcut to get from my in laws house to the fire roads. Also found a few more trails to check out at a later date, after I learn more about them. I like to know what I'm getting myself into.

I'm starting to think there are only 3 types of marked and maintained trails out here- easy fire roads, hardore, double black diamond trails, and those that are semi-permanently closed due to fire damage.

A friend and I took out the rover out for my first time yesterday to Spring Creek just west of Idaho Springs, Colorado. We didn't attempt any of the obstacles but it is a fairly rocky trail and with the snow, there were definitely challenges. This was my first time off road with the vehicle and I understand why the differential lock is so important! So impressed with the capability.

After a pretty long climb up, I did notice the transmission temperature light came on briefly, but we let it cool off and had no further issues.

Used my D2 to jump start my friend's D2 which has been siting for 2 years since an overheating problem. We pulled the radiator this afternoon and sure enough, the hose connectors had about a 1/32" of stop leak goo inside. God knows how badly clogged the radiator is with that stuff.

Got my first flat on the DII today... what a pain in the ***. First, one of the stupid chrome covers on one of the lug nuts was rounded off enough that I couldn't get a tire iron on it to get it loose... as if that wasn't bad enough, my stock jack wouldn't jack up, and my high lift wouldn't lift the *** end of the rig high enough to get the tire off the ground. Had to call a tow truck. The tow driver needed a mallet and a breaker bar to get the stuck lug nut loose... I was off work at 3:30, but didn't roll out of the parking lot until 5...

^ funny thing about storing a jack on its side.

your hi lift wouldn't get the tires off the ground.........solution is ratchet strap axle to frame. I have welded a hook on mine for a little chain that I carry
