Default Looked for drain plugs - found something else

I got underneath the winter Rover to look for coolant drain plugs and realized that I don't have a cross member under the engine. I guess that will make it easy to replace my oil pan gasket. I also found out that someone already put a greasable front driveshaft on this thing.

It might have rusted off? This is why I drive a winter Rover!

I started in on head gaskets on the winter Rover today. I got underneath to find the coolant drain plugs and realized that I have no cross-member under the engine. I guess it must have rusted off! That's why I drive a winter Rover. That should at least make it easier to replace the oil pan gasket when I get to it.

I was also pleased to find that someone has already put a greasable front driveshaft in this thing.

Default Front & rear diff gear oil drain and refill

I haven't received the transfer case drain plug gasket in the mail yet so I went ahead with draining and refilling both front and rear diffs on my 2001 Disco. I expected to see milky gear oil or even no gear oil at all but lucky for me the prior owner took very good care of the Disco before I purchased it. The old gear oil was fairly clean with hardly any metal shavings on both of the diff's drain plug magnets.
Here are all the tools I used to include a Ft Lb torque wrench:

It was cold in Georgia today so I warmed up the gear oil in a bucket with hot water for easier pump suction and flow into the diffs:

Pumped almost 2 quarts into each of the rear and front diffs:

Installed the brass fill plugs to both diffs for a nice touch:

Please do not post anymore pictures of your underside^^^^

The lack of rust...makes me ill...lol. When you look at the post above yours...this is the type of rover undercarriage you get in Michigan. Told my wife a few days ago...I've bought my last Michigan used vehicle...everything from now on will be from down south.

On point with topic...

Drove the 2001 Discovery 50 some miles yesterday. Everything went about as expected, check engine light, SRS light came on and the tires feel as tough they are square from sitting so long. Code was nothing serious, secondary fan blew fuse (which the original one was blown when checking fuses prior, fan needs replaced), SRS, I have no idea what this even is...will check owners manual later. Tires, need new ones...I'm thinking Mud Claws 245/75R16's...whoo hoo!

Other than those few issues...she drove nice and it's much more comfortable than my old jeep.

Brian.

Default Springs!

Finally got around to installing the OME springs up front. Was running around with just the rears done and spacers up front. The jarring when I hit any sort of bump or dip was getting unbearable. Can't believe the improvement to the ride quality!

Yeah that one lucks pretty good. Some of D2s available that spent most of lives further south than ATL look even better.

I looked under my hood today in an attempt to help another member. Checked coolant level while there.

Thanks for the comments The Deputy and Number9. This Disco was surprisingly well kept in California and now I got it here in Smyrna, GA.

This is how to justify getting a rack. No rack, no Christmas lights. Sounds good in theory
