I’ve been pretty happy with mine over the last while, till last night I got caught out in a monsoon in the dark, driver side wiper arm decides to strip out, no ax so windows fogging up than I notice water dripping out of my Cb radio. Lol. Well I’d love something newer Been dreaming about an AEV zr2 or rubicon. But I still love my v8, so I ordered all new ac parts and an inline stat just to ensure she stays cool. I think I’m done with the sunroofs. I’m not pulling the headliner again. Silicone it is. Deputy, I bought my wife a 2016 4Runner with only 48000km last summer. It’s nice and all but I’d rather drive my rover any day. Seats way better, ride is different, softer than my lifted rover but nose dives and body rolls like crazy. Brakes have mysterious lock up issues. Plus rovers draw so much attention. I’ll just keep fixin for now.

750 uneventful miles... No issues at all. Changed the oil and filter while I was at my brothers... Wix 51515. Turns out Unleaded Supreme with NO Ethanol (unbranded) is $4.01 in Idaho... The Rover sure loved that stuff. I'm still not going to pay over $5.00/gallon in Seattle for it though...

Thanks, that does feel better.
Yeah, l'm not sure if it's an age thing catching up with me...my tolerance level is gone. In the past, it was just put your head down and muscle through these poorly engineered jobs...now...the stupidity of some of these "what should be a simple repair, but aren't"...well...they infuriate me.

l believe the biggest thing that set me off was...the 04 had been running fine, no codes since the day l dropped the motor in a year ago. Then l put $850 worth of new tires on it...and it is one thing after another for each day afterwards (misfires after powerwashing, put tires on, then rear sunroof wouldn't close, next day rear window wouldn't close, more misfire codes following day, then cat efficiency codes, then misfire codes in the rain). I think my 01 spoiled me, it just got better and better as l worked on it and l stupidly threw in the towel on it because l want a different color.

Anyhow, hope things get better for you and your rover.

Yeah, probably if there would have been a super clean second generation four runner (like pictured below) anywhere within a thousand miles last night...we wouldn't be having this conversation. Found a clean gen four, but the later generations do nothing for me, so that basically caused the pause.

Wife likes the FJ, but l can't stand them and don't even want to drive in the driveway seeing one...lol.

Found myself looking at LR4's this morning...

Thanks Brian. I remember your 01. I liked it and everything you did to it. And when I got a parts truck that looked a little better than mine, I thought about swapping over to it. But I thought about the problems you had with your replacement truck and decided to keep my 1st truck. I'm not superstitious, but I'm a little superstitious. Figured a hand in the bush is better than a bird in your hand ..or something.
I like having merit badges for being able to keep such a truck going, but I get what you're saying about these jobs that would be easier on another brand. I just had to remove my upper intake and coils to get to the fuel connection to the rail bc it was leaking. Not a fun job in 90 degree weather. And why did they have to bury that connection?? It's kind of an important one! Should be easily accessible!! And the best part is that I couldn't get it to leak while I had access. Just cleaned it and put it all back together hoping for the best. If I smell gas again, I might lose my sh@t. ..Or light a match. Somewhere in Solihul or more likely in Munich, an engineer is laughing at me, I know it.

Almost sold my Disco on the way to meeting up with my local Land rover group. I was gassing up guy said nice land rover, would you sell it. So I said 11000, cost a decent 2008 LR3 with money put rubber on it. He called his wife, oddly she was opposed even when he told her it was a "Land Rover"

But the old girl covered 400 miles without a blip, completely covered in dust inside and out however.

Well, hissing fit is over...(all Toyota purchases put on hold...lol)

04 is running excellent after coil packs and wires. I'm not so sure there was anything actually wrong with the wires, after a bit of inspection tonight (of old set and coil packs) noticed 4 of the plug wires weren't secure in the coil terminal. So, l'm thinking the degreaser at the car wash, coupled with a bit of high pressure (but l never really pointed the nozzle down there near coils) allowed the plug wires to vibrate loose.

Changed the PS pump on the 03 tonight, road tested, so that's done. Was driving it to the car wash, just to wash the outside...lol, but realized l didn't have my wallet. Wanted to wash it, since l bought a new/used silver right fender, from "me2", he also sold me a shifter surround, put that in and changed rubber mat beneath. Swear they could dropped the fender from the space lab and it would have been fine, man he packed that baby unbelieveably well.

Funny, the coil pack and wires, rubber mat, PS pump all came out of the 01 l parted out. That Dll treated me right when it was live and even after death.

In almost 10 years of ownership, I've been slowly trying to get the thing to a point where I'll feel comfortable that it won't leave me stranded somewhere. I've done some cool mods but mostly repairs and maintenance, and very little "Rovering". Unless the definition of the term has been changed from "adventuring", to "keeping British adventure vehicles running", then, I've done plenty! I'm still there in spirit, but my body is constantly asking for retirement and I think that when I finally have her sorted to my liking, I'll be too beat-up to do the adventure part anymore. Anyway, I'm still married to her, and I think I will hang on as long as possible since I haven't been a fan of anything else in the auto market lately, and I'm allowed to be stubborn at my age. Plus I don't have the excuse that "I can't fix it" since fixing things is what I've done my whole life..

don’t let yourself get beat up. Retirement is a time to enjoy life. Take care of yourself and your body will stay strong.

This is not even remotely fair...lol.

Yeah, owning a LR is like playing golf. Normally, during a round, you start questioning the game and why you even play, then it happens, that one great drive or forty foot putt...and next thing you know...you find yourself making another tee time. Same with LR's, you fight the battle, start to question your sanity...then a nice drive happens or you're at a station and someone shows it a bit of attention or it crawls out of some huge mud hole that in all rights it shouldn't have...and you find yourself looking for maybe another one to fix up.
