Took a small road trip to finally get a tent of my own on friday after work.
Just some 500km roundtrip on windy bendy smaller tarmac roads.
~7hrs driving in +30c weather with the ac not keeping up on it's task after a few hours.
The ac worked just nice again the day after, maybe it just was too hot for it... Need to get the gasses checked.
Rarely I drive more than like 50km on one sitting.
So, here's a fresh piccie of my TD5 with the tent.
Now on to next tasks, new clutch and overhauling the tc and gearbox.
That's something new I have never done before and am a bit worried about doing the boxes myself...
The last few days I have been getting parts on to get Salty running again. I had to order a few more parts but everything should be here by Saturday. Then I should be getting my first new addition on Salty that isn't a fix but my first upgrade! Then I have a few upgrades to get ready and then put them on as well! Super excited. I've worked on my Disco everyday for over a week now. I am excited to get stuff done!
The "risers" are shock bushings from oriellys. I can try to find the part number. They are metal, and I think rubber ones would have been a little better but they work.
I ran 5 inch 3/8th SS bolts with a 3/8th hole nut on top to hold the bushing in place. I combined some plastic handles that fit a ss 3/8 nut to hold the lift on there.
I've mounted the base on the driver side and it gives better clearance.
I also got my winch installed. I picked up a gen 2 9.5k smittybilt on FB marketplace. I was able to clock it so I can access the clutch handle through the top of the ARB bumper I have. I already got to use it and it works great! It only came with one bolt and nut of the mounting hardware and they don't sell a kit through smittybilt anymore. So, If anyone ever needs to know. It uses an M10x1.5 bolt, 35mm long for the top mounts. Since I used a synthetic rope, I had to get an offset fairlede (hawse) and it needed 50mm length bolts for the bottom. Square nuts for the mounting feet of the winch.
Dervish, as far as doing your gearboxes, every experienced gearbox mechanic started with no experience. I知 pretty sure you値l do great.
Harv
Yeah, thats true.
I had never done a headgasket etc before also, and did my V8 and TD5 last year, so yeah.
Just need to get my Himalayan delivered so I have something to drive, and can have the gearboxes taken out with no hurry to have done in an evening.
