Default What is this piece from oil pan?

I just dropped my oil pan, and as I finally wiggled it out, oil pickup disconnected and removed, I heard a clunk and found this in the pan when I put it on the ground. Where did it come from??

Also aside, I cleaned the nasty oil pan with Simple Green degreaser and it looks great, but as I was cleaning out the inside I noticed a couple tiny metal fragments, one not so tiny, like a millimeter in width. Normal?

That's the spacer towards the back where the pick up tude attached to the main bearing cap. Should be a stud off the bearing cap that that slides over, then the pick up assembly, then a 13mm nut.
