Default What steering fluid ???

What fluid do you use in a 2004 DII?? I searched and found only reference to "power steering fluid". You don't use the same fluid as a DI right??

Most people just use power steering fluid. (that's what it's called.) There is a land rover special fluid, ACE fluid for the trucks that have active cornering enhancement, but it's expensive and not available everywhere.

Did you look in your owner's manual? It tells you in there.

I used Royal Purple power steering fluid as it is expensive, but one of the only full synthetics available. On the bottle it states it is good enough for race cars and is full synthetic. Which is required on a DII per the owners manual. No leaks and no whining which is more than I can say for my girlfriend most of the time and she leaks at least once a month

I also did flush the system with the bleeder square bolt directly down on the steering box. I kept flushing till all the old dark fluid was evacuated with a clear hose attached to the bleeder screw. Then let it bleed for another minute. Probably cost me about $39 total, but was well worth it. As I'm guessing at 70,000 miles it was original fluid. I found the best price at PepBoys at $13 per bottle used 3 bottles and bought 4, just in case, and its less than quart quntity containers. If you do it yourself with Royal Purple it still less money than paying any mechanic to bleed and fill the system. And they will over charge you for using full Synthetic, and you really don't know what they are going to use. Less then one hour and your oil pan under the front left tire its any easy DIY.

I use RP gear oil my diffs too and they are oh so quiet and happy. 75w-140

I've replaced my power steering fluids with Lucus Power steering fluid in both my Vehicals and have had good success. $7 a bottle and available at just about any auto store.
