Yeah, if you live somewhere warm it's not worth worrying about, it an expensive piece of glass to replace and the little lines running through the windscreen take some getting used to (especially at night). I will say though that if you ever find yourself regularly with snow/ice/condensation on your windscreen it's basically magic.

It might cut the heating wire at the chip, but it won't kill the whole heating element.
And it's split into two elements.
I even have cracks in the screen after fumbling around myself, and it still works perfectly on my disco.
Had plenty of Fords with the same kind heated screen in the past.
I'm in WA and our insurance company offers windshield coverage with a $100 deductible. A rock chip is basically inevitable so when I got my truck and the previous owner had a cheap windshield cheaply installed I just wanted for nature to take its course, played my $100 and had the factory heated glass professionally installed.
