well, the work we had done was, new: o rings, head gaskets, water pump, front drive-shaft. all the fluids were changed 2000 miles ago. i don't know if this would help you, but that's all the work we had done to it. also the service engine light is on

You need to take a video of it with your cell phone and post it on youtube.
Then put the link to the video in this thread.

1. Loud knocking when you drive. So don't drive, or damage can be much worse. Loud is a word with many levels of meaning.

2. Knocking when you crank up and just idle? Go away or gets louder if engine speed increased?

3. Take a yard stick or broom handle and hold one end to you ear, and touch other end on valve covers to see if you can hear noise louder on one side of the other (rocker arms).

4. If you unplug spark plug wires one at a time, you may isolate the cylinder involved. The idea is that by removing the pressure from the explosion in the cylinder you drop the noise for a bearing problem.

Pretty much all of the parts stores (autozone, advance, napa, etc) will read the codes for the check engine light. Report back with the codes they read, don't worry about the description, just get the codes (P###).

The problem appears to be that you have some engine trouble.

That'll be $50 please.
