2001 Disco 2 V8

Will crank but not start, parasitic draw (complete battery drain in hours), flashing M and S lights, no signal from crankshaft position sensor to ECU, no spark.

Whats been done/checked: Replaced CPS (twice and correctly), fuses checked, battery checked.


Any ideas?

Solved: Bad ECU.

Was swapped out with an ECU, BCU and a gauge cluster all from the same donor (a 99 Disco 2).
EASY swap/install, 5 minutes with FOB key in ignition on position 2 (to sync), and she fires up.
...AND I had a bad battery (unrelated to ECU).


Tears of joy!

 

New purchase, never seen it run and trying to fix? Or had it while and just started doing this?

More, or less, things to check, considering engine running history.

 

If you've replaced the CPS twice...and still have no signal...check the entire harness/plug and ECU connection/plug. Make sure battery is fully charged and all terminals are clean and tight, especially ground cable to alternator bracket.

Are there any codes at all?

You can pull the fuses one by one and see where your draw is.
