Default Windshield heater

Is there anyway to disable the feature where the windshield heater turns itself on ? I guess it depends on the temp outside or whether the climate control goes into defrost mode it somehow determines that the heater has to be on. It's annoying as it turns on by itself

I have a heated windshield to but I never noticed it automatically turning on... but never paid to much attention becasue up here in New England its snowing out so the minute I jump in my Disco I automatically turn it on.

But MAYBE its set up to automatically turn on if you have your heater positioned to defrost. The heater itself has a defrost option which is separate from the heated front/rear windshield. So whatever heater setting you had it on before turning off the truck will save and resume once you start back up the truck. Still further, perhaps if you left your heater on the defrost option, then once you start up the truck the defrost option resumes and automatically triggers the heated windshield option... Just a guess. But honestly I cannot see why it would annoy you, it does not make any noise or anything so wont hurt nothing even if it does turn on automatically. Sounds like your Rover just wants to ensure you have a clean windshield to see through everyday .

try setting your heater unit to face only, then turn off truck, then turn back on and see if heated windshield still turns on automatically.

Cut the pink with orange wire on pin 3 of connector C0793, shown in attached. That will remove the ability of the defrost selection to turn on that HFS function, but the manual selection will remain.

important note - the pink - orange kills the actual heater. I forgot to mention that you would also cut purple with slate (gray) on pin 11 of same connector. That turns on the light when the ATC engages the windshield heater. Sorry for the delay.

No, what I am saying is that cutting these wires disabled the defrost from cutting it on automaticaly. You would still have manual control. The BCU controls the time to a fixed limit (it don't got no eyeballz so it cain't see the windshield is clear). You can press the switch again at anytime to toggle it off.
