Exclamation Windshield wiper/ electrical help

Hello everyone, I need some help.

I've got a 04 Disco II, and until recently the front wiper worked just fine. The wiper, the bug juice everything was working, then the wiper began to catch about 3/4 way through the wipe and it would stop, if you held the stick or turned the speed faster it would continue to work just fine.

Recently it stopped all together. The rear works fine, but the front wont. The electrical gremlins are acting up too, if I try and put in a new fuse in for the wipers, it blows instantly.

Do I need a new motor? Switch? or ? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks as always.

Best

Peter

Consider the fuse box itself as a possible culprit.
I had a rear wiper / door lock issue - thread is on here somewhere, but ended up having to replace the entire fusebox due to the IDM built in and relays built in for certain functions.
If you have a copy of the RAVE manual, it'll detail how the wipers are activated - how the signal is moved through the system.

Likely, you need to disassemble the stalk, clean the contacts, relube and reassemble. The original grease oxidizes and creates poor contact resulting in intermittent wiper function.

Rock auto has rebuilt wiper motors at good prices
I had to replace 2 motors in my 03 in the last year. One motor lasted only 3 months.

If the fuse is blowing instantly then you have a dead short somewhere in the system. You need to trade it down with a multimeter reading ohms. I'm sure there are plenty of basic electrical diagnostic tutorials on yourube that can help you with that.

If there was a catch happening then I would put my first bet on the motor, assuming there wasn't some problem with the linkage causing the catch. That could've in turn caused an issue with the motor though. The multimeter will tell you, though. Just check your way back through the system. Best of luck.
