moorebl, I believe you stated you had a 2004 model so I am pretty sure you will have the newer designed for this switch as I did in my 2003 Discovery.

Here is a link to my writeup if it helps.

And as Paul Grant stated the plug can be hard to get to and disconnect, so I used a slotted screwdriver to unclip it from the metal support tab on the transmission allowing the cable to drop down and for me to easily swap out the switches.

But I would suggest getting a complete diagnosis of your battery strength, assuring all connections are tight and not corroded and test your alternator as well before you buy a switch.

so if limp mode AND service engine soon light is on that can mean that it IS the XYZ Switch?

XYZ switch controls what you see on the dash in terms of what gear your in -- not sure if it has anything to do with limp mode

Not Sure: x,y,z does much more than make symbols appear on dash.

Meld: It’s best to start a new post in the D2 area.

All indications you mention suggests but don’t mean it’s the switch.

Yes and No.

Get codes read and go from there. Code readers are dirt cheap anymore, or go to a parts store and have them read. Me, if you are going to own this vehicle for any length of time...buy one. It will help you describe the issue and related codes to us...enhancing the chances of us helping you quicker and more successfully.

Default XYZ Position

Does anyone know whether you should make sure the gear that connects to the arm that shifts the transmission is turned all the way to the left or right when reinstalling after repair?

Do you have the RAVE workshop manual. If not you can download it from the link in my signature below.

According to the RAVE (page 622 of the PDF), when installing the XYZ the shaft should first be rotated fully clockwise (to the Park position), the rotated two clicks counterclockwise (to the Neutral position).
