There is a warning light, it seems to go away after a couple seconds though.

My 2000 has both a light and a chime, which lasts about 5 seconds. Perhaps yours was somehow disabled, but it should be there.

My '01 does not have a chime. I think there is an indicator light in the dash that comes on for a couple seconds then goes away.

When I bought mine it had a chime and a light, then suddenly it stopped. The light still comes on when it does the light "test" at start up but goes out right after and no chime. I assume there's a blown fuse or a broken switch/sensor in the buckle.

i have an 04 which lights up on the dash, when it feels like it, but no chime. also, figured i only had the immobiliser since it never chirps when i shut the door, but lo and behold, while taking my keys out of the ignition, i hit the lock button by mistake, and opened the door, which made the alarm go off. also, there isn't a light for the cruise control. it engages, but nothing on dash to tell you it's working. i might be nitpicking, but if this is supposed to be the epitome of off road vehicles, you think that the buttons would be huge for ease of pressing while wearing gloves. even if i was in the serengetti hunting rhino, i would be wearing gloves for my rifle. just saying......
