I'm pretty sure I am an idiot that has a bunch of cars to try my s#*t out on, so I get lucky sometimes. To prove how lame I am, it took me 10 hours to do my timing cover refresh (Chain, Gears, Pump, etc.). Local tech told he does it in 2 hours and they charge 4.6 hours for the labor.
Glad you are not locked out.
Question: Was setting off the alarm and then using the unlock button the trick? Need to know for the next person.

You should buy an ultragauge so you can monitor real time temps. The dash temp gauge will not go past the middle until like 230 degrees and by that time you are SOL. We have 3 disco daily drivers and all of them have ultra gauges in them. Its around $70, you CAN"T afford to not buy one. Also reads and clears engine codes. Buy one tonight online, the best insurance you can buy. Overheat your disco and you are looking at a head gasket job, minimum $500 if you do it, minimum $1500 at a garage.
