I mix in 1/4 bottle of lucas zddp additive with every other oil change and I'm using Rotella. This would take the zddp up to around 1400ppm. I'm at 186 000 miles (I've put 76 000 miles on her). Original cats and I just did O2 sensors recently.

So I went with what it seems most are using Rotella 15w 40. I worried about it being thick but not going to be using synthetics due to price. Now parts stores always want me to use 10w40 and it is what I use in my 2002 chevy express 15 passenger van. (I have six kids so I need the room The van calls for 5w but seems way too thin especially at higher mileage. Why do we not use 10w40 in the land rovers?

You can use 10w-40 in your Rover, the early DI's factory fill was 10w-40 and thats what the dealer used as well, EPA forced the switch to 5w-30 to "improve" MPG.
The reason we dont use the 10w-40 is because the Rotella is a much better oil because it is a heavy duty diesel oil with a high additive content and can go extended drain intervals so you dont need to worry about going over your oil change by a few miles.
You can also use it in your Express van.
I like having one oil on the shelf in the garage, I use Rotella 5w-40 in everything, wifes '06 Sedona, mom's '08 Escape, and of course my Rover.
All get the oil changed every 5,000 miles.
I can buy that oil anywhere so it is easy to get when I need it and its cheap, $21 a gal. and I always have a gallon in the garage.

You can. But 10W30 is too thin above 95 F (the Mom's Taxi route). I really would prefer to look at the factory manual in the RAVE, rather than trust a parts guy who is forced to see only the screens the computer weasels in his company want him to see. I don't believe the Data Entry Diva has read the RAVE.

The Rotella is cheap, good, has the ZDDP, and other cleaning / soot control things that help keep our dirty old design running.
