I hope that this new subforum can become the go-to source of information on swaps for Disco 2s and other Land Rovers. I hope that everyone that has experience with this swap can start threads of their own experiences here. I will be posting some threads to discuss some of the things that have become buried in this thread to make the information more easy to access.

My pleasure. After all the moderators are here to help the community grow. I think that the LS swap or any engine swap that keeps our Rovers on the road longer doing what they do so well better is a good thing. Keeping our aging trucks relevant only makes things better for all.

Admittedly I certainly wouldn’t mind a LS in my old 110 someday. Or my dream of a Ford 6.8 V10 would be even better

Happy wrenching Ladies and Gentlemen. For those that have already done the swap feel free to chronicle it with pics in your own thread. The more points of view and different ways of execution will only help the community improve the process.

Offtopic sort of.. but have any hobbyist attempted this on a RRC? Does the RRC use the same trans and transfer case as a discovery?

Short answer, no. Should be somewhat easier in a RRC as less electronics to try and get to play nice. People have swapped SBC into classics with great success for some time from what I've seen.

Anyone know what kind of starter I should be getting for my 5.3L LM4?
Not sure if there is a difference between truck and SUV starters.
Part numbers would be appreciated!

Buttoning up the intake, fuel and accessories this week and tackling the wiring harness next week!

Default Starter

I got this starter and these bolts. I have an L33 but I think this should work for you too.

I think that this was the one I used. ACDelco 337-1119. I believe it is generally the same as the truck part. There are probably some less expensive options out there. Also need to order the bolts if you don't have them.

We're right about at the same stages then. I just finished that but I've cooling, intake and wiring harness remaining and I still have to send out this ECU to get programmed somewhere, not sure where I'll go for that.

Contact Brendan at lt1swap. Pricing and all info you could need are on his website. Just make sure you know what style injectors you have. Also for an extra fee he can provide the ECU.
