Default 03 RR - steering column noise on retraction

A few days ago, my steering column started making a strange sound when retracting after turning off the ignition. It sounds
almost like a turkey clucking. It doesn't make the sound when the key's inserted and the column extends.

Im assuming the slip joint needs some sort of lubrication.

Has anyone else experienced this? Can I access the column by removing the bolts from the lower portion of the shroud? What kind of lubricant
should be used - white lithium grease?

Thanks
Bob

Default RE: 03 RR - steering column noise on retraction

• QYL500010 .......Grease Qty 1 (Part of QME500090)

LUBRICATE TILT AND REACH SPINDLES
CAUTION: Insufficient application of grease can lead to the noise returning.
1. Move the driver's seat fully rearward.
2. Extend the column to full reach position.
3. Unlatch the column-to-fascia extension bellows from the column trim.
4. Remove the three Torx screws securing the steering column lower trim to the steering column.
5. Remove the upper and lower column trim for access to the tilt and reach motor spindles.
6. Apply grease (QYL500010) onto the tilt and reach spindles.
7. Operate the column adjustment through the full range of travel to evenly distribute the grease along
the entire spindle length.
8. Ensure that the column noise concern has been resolved.
9. Install steering column upper and lower trim and secure.
10. Install the column-to-fascia extension bellows.
