Default 2003 Rover battery drain

I have been messing with this problem for years . I have found the exact problem with my issue but have not been able to find the proper fix. There is a small fan that is just behind the Climate Control Head Assembly that is supposed to suck in air over a sensor to determine the temp of the air so that is knows where to set the auto temperature when you first get in the car. (total . BS feature if you ask me) So anyway its supposed to turn off automatically after it does its thing but mine does not turn off until the battery is dead. I have read all over the net on many forums of folks talking about this but none actually have said they have fixed this or how to. I know this is the issue becasue I yanked the whole assembly out and unplugged all the wires in the back until I found the one that stops the fan. Unfortunately the plug that stops the fan also powers the entire assembly so no ac or heat if you leave it unplugged. I left the car for several days like this and BEHOLD NO BATTERY DRAIN ! I may take the entire assembly out and figure out how to take it apart and cut the wire to the fan or I may just jab a screwdriver into the fan and destroy it all together !! I will wait to see if anyone has any suggestions before I resort to the jabbing the screwdriver into the fan it fix ...P.S. I highly recommend a "battery brain" which is a devise that you attach to your battery that cuts all power after it drains to 12volts which is enough to start the car. This keeps you from getting stranded and from having to do a jump start.

I like the idea of the battery brain. I think this will help.
My Rover is always dying when I park it past several days in any garage.. Its really a hastle to have to keep charging it.

yes the battery brqain is a must have, its a life saver. You can buy it on the internet and install it pretty easily yourself or take it to a mechanic. It shouldnt cost more than an hour of labor. In regards to the battery drain issue Ive made some progress. The fan is called an aspirator fan. Its supposed to stay on 20 minutes or so when you turn the car off. The way to test it is to cut a small piece of paper about the size of a nickel and place it on top of the inlet grill (small grill under the tempature ****) and the suction created by the fan will hold it there in place. Place it high as posible on the grill so you can tell if it falls off. Close the door and set a timer for thirty minutes and come back and look throgh the window to see if the paper fell down or if its still stuck in place. Then cycle the ignition by inserting the key and turning it to the on position for 10 seconds and then off and repeat the test. On my car the first test failed (fan stayed on) but when I tried the second the fan turned off. So in my case if you open a door after you have closed it say to retrieve something out of the car this fan will stay on unless you do the 10 second ignition cycle thing. I have had a suggestion to buy this wire harness kit and replace it (part number (YNI500040K) you can find it by googling it. I found one for $137.00 with shipping and will try this and see if it fixes it. I did take the entire assembly apart but there wasn't anyway to "unplug" the fan as it is hard wired (soldered) to a motherboard. I was able to clean the board and fan up a bit as it was very dirty. I will still pull fuse 12 out if I'm not going to drive it for any length of time.

Default battery drain

Hey tried the final stage resister still losing power overnight but off and on. Sometimes it is dead and others not. Wonder if it is related to reopening doors. Did you put that relay in? What happened? Love to solve this. Thanks
