Default ABS pump

I own a 91 range rover and recently my abs pump is making a very loud noise. I have lost all abs power brakes and am now using my manual brakes. My ABS light stays on all of the time even when I disconnect the power to the ABS pump. I think that the problem is the ABS pump but is there anything I can check before I go and buy an expensive new one? I appreciate anyones suggestions.

Take it to a shop and ask the to at least confirm what your beliefs are.

I'm having a similar problem with my '90 classic. I've worked out that the noise appears to be air in the pump which can be seen when the pump is bled and the noise stops. I'm going to replace the hose between the reservoir and the pump as I suspect this may be allowing air into the system. This is the second pump and accumulator I've had fitted so i'm fairly sure its not either of these units at fault. I'll let you know how I get on.

beats - where did you get the hose?

I am having a similar problem. The car has been sitting for a few months, fired her up and the ABS pump has been whining w/no brake pressure. I thinking a line cracked somewhere and is allowing air in, but I haven't had the time to check it out yet.

Does anyone know of a way to bypass the ABS altogether?

Don't just start replacing part before a diagnoises is done, could be something as symple as an accumulator failing. There are plenty of places to buy good guaranteed used parts also.

Mike - can you list a few. I also need a new alternator.

I was going to start w/bleeding the system and seeing what happens, hopefully it will be something simple and not the ABS pump itself.
