Chill Tony. Land rovers are not elite. Check eBay for the price of anything other than a defender (in the US; in Brittain they are the price of Volkswagens).

If you are willing to work on your own vehicle you can have just about anything. I think rovers are fairly easy to work on. If they had no computers they would be easier, but you have to go way back to the early 90s or before to get a normal person vehicle that lacks electronics. Discoveries are a good balance of toughness and comfort, and I don't think cost of maintaining them is too high if you do it yourself. Anything at a Land Rover dealership is going to cost an arm and a leg; I haven't been to one in about a decade, maybe more. Parts and advice are plentiful on the Internet, and a Rover will give you an excuse to get some pretty neat tools.

Mods for a Land cruiser are definitely more plentiful, but the principles are the same. If you can keep a Land cruiser going, you can keep a Rover going.

I've looked at older land cruisers (older than 2003) and I think they are nice rigs.

I have an 08 RRS with 110k. Still runs strong. I only have a small stack of repair bills. Keep the oil fresh on the Jag 4.4 and it will last.
