Default Oil leak around oil drain plug [4.0 v8]

Hello all, I'm a relativley new rover owner, just picked up a 2001 discovery. Never posted to forums, I've found all the info I have needed so far already posted so thank you for that. I started on disco mike's super list thing (so far I've only managed to order the new drive shaft and the all the additives, i've only owned the truck for 5 days) overall she's in good health but yesterday I notcied a small oil leak from around the oil drain bolt. I wiped it off and checked the next day and sure enough more oil. I assume its coming from the oil pan gasket, but there's probably some secret im missing. Anyone have any other ideas before I drop the pan? Also: I got the truck from a dealer under a 1,000mile engine/tranny warranty, should I just take it to the dealer and make them take care of it?

There is a crush washer around the oil pan bolt. The last person to do it may not have put it back on or else it needs a new one. If you just bought it you will probably want to change the oil anyway. The guys here have sold me on the 15w40 weight oil. You can order them from Atlantic British if you have other things to get. I bought a big package, not sure what your dealer would charge for them.

ah, I did notice a sticker on the windshield saying that it just got an oil change 3 days before I bought it so that would make sense. Thanks for the reply robersonb. Ill check tonight and let you knwo if that was it.

most of the time you can just turn the washer around and it will seal, good to reverse it on each oil change

Default oil washer

Thanks for that tip. I didn't know that. My package of washers should last a good long time then.

I would think that it would be a regular problem for those to disappear when done at a quick lube place.
