Premature brake wear - 07 w/ 10k miles
I just bought my car about 7 months ago and the dealer told me that my brakes are almost at the sensor and they want about $1,000 to replace all four brakes. Now, I only have about 10k miles on it. Is this normal? Do Rover brakes wear out that fast? Isn't that a warranty issue? Has anyone experienced this? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.
I just did my F & R brakes for under $550. Installed PowerStop vented and cross drilled rotors and EBC greenstuff pads. Took me under 3 hours to do. I can say that this set-up stops the truck much quicker then the OEM discs and rotors.
Don't go to the stealership. Do it yourself and save some money. Plus, you'll have that feeling of accomplishment that very few vehicleowners have today.
I don't know about the 3rd gen RR's, but most classic and P38 RR owners I know get between 40-50K on a front set of pads. Rear about 70K. As far as warranty, maintennance items won't be covered by Land Rover.

I'm a NY area Tech and see lots of vehicles around your mileage needing pads,RR,LR3 and freelanders. the pad wear has everything to do with City stop and go driving. Several years ago all Mfgr's were required to stop using asbestos in pad material which lasted longer due to its ability to stand up to the super high temps, the new stuff is too soft and the cars are bigger and heavier.
The pad wear sensors are there for a reason, if the service dept is telling you the pads need to be replaced simply because they are "close" to the sensors, you should look yourself, the plastic wire holder is pretty thick and the rotor can contact it for quite awhile before it actually hits and grounds the sensor wire and turns on the light, I'll bet the close pad sensor still had 3-5k of wear left on them, sure they saved you the expence of replacing the sensor but the things (two of them)didnt even get to dotheir job. Light on, replace the pads.not required untill then folks !
