Is it me, or is the range on the key remote terrible? I have a 97 Range Rover 4.6 HSE, and I have to be about 2' from the car before it will unlock the doors. I've already replaced the batteries twice, with no improvement. Shouldn't I be able to be a fair distance away and it still work? I checked the power going to the RF receiver, and it's getting it. Is there an aftermarket receiver or some sort of other fix to increase the range? Thanks for your time.

 

Do you have after market window tints? some of them contain metal fragments that shield the signal,also do you live or have an aerial mast close by,this can confuse the system,lastly the fobs dont like having a bunch of other keys with them as these remotes also suffer from electrostatic interference caused by the other keys,best of luck Paul UK.

 

I do have tinted windows. However, I don't know if they're aftermarket or not (not a RR stock expert). I do not live next to any large ariels nor do I have any aftermarket antennas on the vehicle. I only have 2 or 3 other keys on my keyring, but i'll try pulling it off and using it separately. Thanks for your input.

 

Try using your remote from different angles and heights.

This may sound weird, but I had a car where the remotes started loosing range. Try touching the remote to your chin while you test it. My distance went from about 2' to about 30', but I have a lot of metal in my mouth.
