Default Speedometer Issue - '92 RR

Several months ago I swapped in an LT230 transfer case to replace my broken Borg Warner. I used the existing speedo drive cable and plugged it into the LT230. Everything seemed to work fine up until a couple of weeks ago. Now, the speedo either sits at zero, or generally reads way slower than it should and flutters. But, the odometer seems to work normally. I checked the cable; it seems OK. I can't see how the small speed sensor box could be bad if the odo is working? I'm really hoping not to have to replace the speedo; its expensive. Anyone have this issue?
